This is a piece I created in my 3D Design class. The prompt was to create an "egg altar". We were required to create a self supporting sculpture using only paper that also supported a hollowed out egg.

The idea for my piece was that the base is a representation of my life & my past. The hand is representative of my own hand pushing the egg (myself) through the challenges and the beauties of life. The egg is a representation of the fragility of self worth and sense of self.

I used only card stock and hot glue. To create the swirls and textures, I used needle nose tweezers and scissors to curl (like you would curl a ribbon).

Ripping and crumpling the paper created jagged edges to represent the uglier sides of life. The sharp points represent pain. The spikes of orange and yellow are to represent fire. The pink represents femininity while the other bright colors are a general representation of joy. The greens are supposed to represent masculinity while the waves of teal are made to look like ocean waves, to represent the ebbs and flows of life, like the tides.
